Engineering Growth: Structural Complexity & Seamless Design
Adding a second story is one of the most complex residential undertakings. It requires a perfect marriage of structural engineering and architectural sensitivity. For this project, our primary goal was to ensure the new addition felt like an original part of the home’s DNA.
Key technical and design highlights include:
- Foundation Reinforcement: Before going up, we performed a thorough assessment and reinforcement of the existing foundation to support the increased load of a full second story.
- Rear Footprint Expansion: A strategic rear addition was executed to create an expansive, open-concept "Great Room" on the main floor, perfect for modern indoor-outdoor living.
- Master Suite Integration: The new second floor allowed for the creation of a dedicated master wing, complete with a walk-in closet and a spa-inspired ensuite.
- Optimized Building Envelope: We utilized high-performance insulation and modern glazing throughout the new additions to ensure maximum energy efficiency and year-round climate control.
